ESPN Fixed-Gear Article
We got word today of us being quoted in an article about fixed-gear bicycles on ESPN's website [ link]. The story's author, Mary Buckhelt, quoted our description of fixed-gear bikes:
"The experts at Cambridge Bicycle on Massachusetts Avenue in Boston explain that because it has only one gear, fixies are technically a subset of single-speed bicycles, "but fixed-gears are better thought of as a separate category of bicycle entirely, with their own enthusiast culture."
We're pretty excited about this, of course. It's not every day the shop gets mentioned on a website with a readership like ESPN. If you're interested in learning more about fixed gear stuff, feel free to come into the shop. We have plenty around the shop to show (and test ride). You might also want to check out our sister shop, Superb, as well.
New Chrome Arrivals Yesterday we got a shipment in from our friends at Chrome:
We restocked our wall with a full size run of their sling bags (for both shoulders) as well as a few backpacks. We even have their rugged, roll-top Warsaw model in stock! Come by and check them out, and be sure to take a look in our display case for our Chrome hip packs and accessory pouches for just $19.95 and $39.95!
Swobo water bottles
We've been trying our hardest to " avoid the bummer life" in many different ways this past summer. One of our most self-satisfying methods has been with the Swobo " not a water bottle." While this looks like an ordinary water bottle (despite Swobo's insistence otherwise) it is not ordinary. This bottle is not only free of plastics that will leech into the bottle (causing an off-taste and/or other health problems) it is also biodegradable. That means one less way to contribute to the patches of plastic floating in ocean gyres everywhere. Additionally, they are made in the United States, which is just one more good reason to check them out.
New Ortlieb shipment
Yesterday we got a shipment in from Ortlieb and of course, we all got a little excited. Not only did we get their waterproof messenger bags (Velocity Rucksack, Messenger, and Messenger Pro), but we got a variety of panniers as well. We received a few pairs of the waterproof classics, their shopping bag, and two of their office bags. As soon as we got them unboxed, however; we sold an office bag to a Harvard professor. If you've been thinking about getting one of these you should probably come in pretty soon. Above is pictured a Shopping Bag pannier and Waterproof Messenger Bag with a KHS Green, just two of the many possibilities of hauling cargo with your bike that we have in the shop.
Cheap bikes for Autumn It's nearly mid-September. In just a few short weeks summer will be officially over and fall will be here. There are still many rideable months before the winter chill, and if you talk to many of us at the shop, these months are the best for riding (mostly because you have to work harder to get sweaty).
If you missed out on buying a new bike this summer and are looking to buy one, or if you're new to Boston and need a way to get around that's less expensive than the MBTA, we've got hybrids, mountain bikes and single speeds for you starting at $299!
Thank You, Craigslist

Hello Boy-At-The-Bike-Store,
I have a crush on you. I bring my bike in sometimes and you change the tire for me. Sometimes I come in to try to talk to you but I lose courage and buy something I don't really need instead. My room is filling up with bicycle supplies and I don't even know your name!
-Just-Another-Girl-With-A-Crush-On-A-Bicycle-Boy
We heard about this first day yesterday morning from a customer and it made our day. We like it when people think we're cute, but please stop buying things you don't need, post author, that makes us sad. But BikeSnobNYC hopefully will hear about this and maybe even blog about it. That makes us excited.
If you have a crush on any one of us please post about it, or if you prefer to hide your feelings, at least write us a good review on Yelp because we'd like to have the reputation of "Dreamiest Bike Shop Employees" in the Boston area.
