A hybrid bicycle is a compromise between a mountain bike and a road bike. Hybrids have a road bicycle frame and wheels but are geared low with a straight handle bar. You might want to think of a hybrid bicycle as “a mountain bike modified for road use”, but hybrids can vary in how ‘mountain’ or how ‘road’ they are equipped.

Hybrid bicycles use mountain bike gears (“27-speed”, with 3 gears front and 9 gears in back) and a straight handle-bar to make riding hills easier, but the frame and wheels are lighter and more narrow; more like a road bike.
